Bulldog Drummond Comes Back

The dashing and debonair Captain "Bulldog" Drummond (John Howard), becomes swept up in a fiendish plot perpetrated by foreign criminals. This is the first in a series of eight Paramount films that chronicle the freewheeling escapades of British writer H.C. McNeile's irrepressible detective. Drummond's fiancee, Phyllis Clavering (Louise Campbell), is kidnapped by the diabolical Mikhail Valdin (J. Carrol Naish), a past foe who is being pursued by international authorities for murdering an American millionaire in Paris. With the help of his butler Tenny (E.E. Clive) and partner Algy Longworth (Reginald Denny), Drummond pursues Valdin in a chase through waterfront dives in search of his beloved Phyllis, while Scotland Yard inspector Colonel Nielson (John Barrymore) follows their trail by slipping into an amazing series of disguises.

Bulldog Drummond Escapes

Ray Milland stars as adventurer and soldier-of-fortune Hugh "Bulldog" Drummond who rescues lovely damsel-in-distress Phyllis Clavering (Heather Angel). A scheming acquaintance is intent on stealing her sizable inheritance and holds her captive in a stately country manor. Phyllis' brother is murdered and killers stalk Bulldog and his hapless friend Algy Longworth (Reginald Denny). Scotland Yard arrives to unravel the mystery, but not before Capt. Drummond faces the challenge of his life. Bulldog Drummond Escapes is the only entry in the successful Paramount series starring the legendary and dashing Milland (The Lost Weekend) as Drummond. Based on writer/creator H.C. McNeile's play, this first in the eight part series is arguably the finest with believably menacing villains and plenty of action.

Bulldog Drummond In Africa

The Captain's wedding plans are once again abandoned when his fiance, Phyllis (Heather Angel), witnesses the brutal abduction of friend and wedding guest Colonel Neilson of Scotland Yard. Bulldog and Phyllis fly across the channel in hot pursuit to exotic Morroco, where an international spy ring led by the fiendish Richard Lane (J. Carrol Naish), hold the Colonel captive. When he refuses to divulge state secrets, Neilson is chained to a tree in the spies' courtyard, where a huge ravenous lion threatens to tear him limb-from-limb as Captain Drummond races to save him. "Bulldog Drummond In Africa" features stylish, sophisticated lighting and set design, wry humor and thrilling suspense. The excellent cast and performances make this a top-notch entry in the Bulldog Drummond series.

Bulldog Drummond's Peril

A valuable synthetic gem is stolen and the head of the Metropolitan Diamond Syndicate is the chief suspect. The scientist responsible for "creating" the precious stone is murdered and Captain Drummond swears vengeance. The trail leads to a house on the outskirts of London where he finds his fiancé, Phyllis Clavering, and his loyal valet, Tenny, imprisoned by a notorious arch-criminal who will stop at nothing to learn the secret of the artificial jewel. The film climaxes in an unforgettable duel in which Captain Drummond, armed with a saber, battles his bullwhip-wielding nemesis. The fifth entry in the series, Bulldog Drummond's Peril features John Barrymore as the stiff-upper-lipped Colonel Nielson of Scotland Yard. The striking laboratory sets add a futuristic touch to the film's noir style.

Bulldog Drummond's Secret Police

Suave, sophisticated Captain "Bulldog" Drummond (John Howard) explores hidden riches right in his own Rockingham backyard in this sixth installment of the popular series based on H.C. McNeile's detective stories. Drummond is all set to marry his sweetheart, Phyllis Clavering (Heather Angel), when the eccentric Professor Downie (Forrester Harvey) suddenly arrives, informing the Captain that there is a buried treasure hidden somewhere on his estate and that he has the secret cipher which will lead them to it. After deciphering the code, the professor is murdered. Drummond and his loyal crew, caretaker Tenny (E.E. Clive) and loyal friend Algy (Reginald Denny), explore the manor's mysterious, unknown passageways uncovering a gothic torture chamber in their quest to discover both the treasure and the identity of the professor's killer. "Bulldog Drummond's Secret Police" includes a short retrospective of the prior Bulldog films in the form of an inventive dream sequence triggered by the Captain's pre-nuptial jitters.
