1. Poppy Ott & the Stuttering Parrot

On the very day that Poppy Ott told Jerry Todd the strange story of the vanished black parrot, amazing things happened in Cap'n Tinkertop's bird store. "Blo-o-od ! Gu-gu-give me a bucket of blo-o-od?" The ghostly stuttering voice frightened the boys in the dead of night -- then they found the hidden parrot, whose weird "voo-doo" secret led back to Haitian jungles. A lonely cemetery, a yawning grave, a vanished townsman, a weird voice from another world -- the mystery of these associated things, combined with the boy "detectives" hilarious fun, make a fascinating story, as full of belt-bursting giggles and shivers as the famous "Jerry Todd" books by the same author.

2. Poppy Ott's Seven League Stilts

Poppy Ott proved to his doubting chum, Jerry Todd, that he was cut out for a business man by inventing an unusual pair of stilts and selling 144 pairs in one day. Needing a factory, the young manufacturers (on the road to certain wealth!) moved into an abandoned carriage plant ... and thus met the strange old man who talked with "dead people" and lived with a mysterious jeering parrot in a lonely brick house, guarded in its dark secrets by a park of "black-fingered" whispering pine trees. Ghostly raps and footfalls in the dead of night. A vanished will. And in the end a mysterious toppled tombstone. You'll giggle and shiver with Poppy in this hilarious and bewildering fun-mystery story.

3. Poppy Ott & the Galloping Snail

Hitch-hiking, imagine yourself at night, like these sky-larking chums, Poppy Ott and Jerry Todd, in a lonely house -- ghostly footfalls, creaking windows, and a queer smell, the weird story of which, as told talkatively by a funny old lady, will run shivers close to your heels. Detective stuff then -- and fun! In old Ivory Dome's crazy car, the GALLOPING SNAIL, the boys meet Goliath, that foolish giant. And the grief they had on the road! A strange will, a vanished heiress, a smart fat kid, a crooked lawyer, a spotted gander -- all parts of an amazing mystery story, one of Leo Edwards' best.

4. Poppy Ott's Pedigreed Pickles

Poppy Ott's proposed "Pickle Parlor," and his notion that people would freely patronize the new store if better than average pickles were offered, didn't enthuse Jerry Todd. But the neat little store is finally made ready, the first batch of pickles is made, and then, with Jerry won over, and everything pointing to success, the town is thrown into a furor of excitement, with suffering pickle eaters rushing madly here and there, holding their stomachs, in search of hot-water bottles. Those awful pickles! Wearing out a full set of mail order auto tires making hurry-up calls, Doc Leland earned enough life-saving medals to sink a battleship. A mysterious cat killer; a gold cucumber; pirates; creeping shadows; hidden treasure. In all, fun galore. And shivers, too!

5. Poppy Ott & the Freckled Goldfish

Doc Leland told Poppy Ott and Jerry Todd there was such a disease as sleeping sickness.  But the puzzled "Jupiter" detectives, working on the "Hidden House" mystery, could hardly believe that the Chinese dwarf in the locked room actually was sleeping.  So Jerry watches at the keyhole, where his view is weirdly cut off by a vapory form, gliding between the door and bed.  Was it a ghost?  Or the mysterious "daggery-eyed" swamp man?  Then on the heels of Professor Pip's flight, following the disastrous test of the freckle "cure" on poor Red Meyers, comes the amazing discovery of the many freckled goldfish, which opens the way to one of Poppy's most laughable selling schemes.  Leo Edwards promised boys this book of a "million laughs."  And here it is!

6. Poppy Ott & the Tittering Totem

Another one of Leo Edwards' rollicking "Juvenile Jupiter Detective" tales featuring, not only Poppy Ott and Jerry Todd, story characters of interest to boys where ever books are read, but Red Meyers, C.T.P. (Chief Tomato Pitcher), and, in a lesser way, Scoop Ellery, Peg Shaw and the complete Stricker gang. Any book recounting the exploits of Red Meyers would necessarily be funny; and here, as a totem-pole carver, we have him at his best (or worst!). How bewildering, too, is the mystery of the eerie totem pole, planted peculiarly in front of the scientist's Hidden House. What causes the weird tittering? Why does the millionaire go there nightly? Countless laughs here; and those spooky shivers that boys enjoy in their stories.

7. Poppy Ott & the Prancing Pancake

Sir Hinkle Funnyduster!  Such was the ridiculous name given by Tutter's trusty Juvenile Jupiter Detectives to the queer old turtle owner who wore cold pancakes on his bald head.  An act, Poppy Ott and Jerry Todd agreed, that was a mystery in itself.  And there was Davey Jones, the iron-jawed turtle from Boot Island.  Had he been brought to Pirates Bend to lift the treasure in the old mill?  But how could a turtle -- even a pirate's turtle 200 years old -- be the key to the treasure's hiding place?  Then came a scream in the dark.  Poor Red Meyers (separated from Peg and Scoop) shivered his back teeth loose.  More mystery.  A knockout.  In all, a rollicking, hillarious fun mystery tale, embracing a pancake duel between Red and Bid Stricker, such as only Leo Edwards can write.

8. Poppy Ott Hits the Trail

Poppy Ott had heard that there was an old Indian lead mine in the Tutter hills.  So, great indeed was his excitement when a big bass that he hooked disappeared into a subterranean cave under Clark's Falls.  Here was the long-hidden entrance to the secret mine!  In town, Jerry Todd got word from Poppy to come to the falls right away.  And there Jerry's gang had to battle a rival gang for possession of the wild canyon, over which hung one of the strangest mysteries that the Tutter "Juvenile Jupiter Detectives" ever solved.  Here is exactly the right story for boys who love the open -- the smell of burning wood and sizzling bacon, the eerie echoes of the forest and the hazards of underground exploration.

9. Poppy Ott & Co., Inferior Decorators

It was galling to Poppy Ott and Jerry Todd to have to give up their wallpaper store to young Bill Stuart, whose wealthy parents later set him up in the home decorating business there. Bill's unscrupulous father had set out to crush old Pappy Paisley, whose dingy wallpaper stock Poppy and Jerry were trying to turn into cash, to save Pappy and his wife from the poorhouse. Bill had a fine new store, while Poppy and Jerry had to sell their old wallpaper in a barn. But the darker things looked the harder Poppy and Jerry worked, with the Sweets jeering as the story of Poppy's first bungling attempt at paper hanging got out. Then came the amazing mystery of the hidden greenbacks -- in all, a story of fine purpose, exciting, appealing, packed with fun -- Poppy Ott at his best.

10. Poppy Ott The Monkey's Paw

Here is Poppy Ott in a brand new role -- that of a boy detective -- and to make the story all the more thrilling, Poppy tells it himself.  It was an amazing, perilous web Poppy found himself in at the Green Monkey Inn.  here he exchanged rooms with a superstitious actor who next morning was found dead!  Weird questions were asked at the inquest which followed ... Had the leering monkey at Poppy's window aided in the crime as the claw marks suggested?  Who was the peg-legged prowler heard that night in the inn corridor?  This was the mystery Poppy set out to solve, aided by Dory Trot, a detective's son, and the brave little Chinese Fu Wong Pu.  Mystery lovers won't want to miss this exciting one -- the first of the new POPPY OTT DETECTIVE STORIES!

11. Poppy Ott The Hidden Dwarf

When Poppy Ott and Dory Trot undertook the strange case of the Hidden Dwarf, and went off with him to a Boy Scout camp, the young detectives little dreamed off the dumbfounding events that were to happen there.  First a Scout was mysteriously clawed on the dark beach. Then the camp cook was found there -- "scared to death" was the coroner's verdict -- certainly suggestive of some weird, lurking peril!  A strange old snake woman; a piteously mistreated child; two bewildered young detectives, their theories changing with each successive stupefying event; a man of remorse -- and through it all nineteen hilarious fun-loving Boy Scouts, all brought together in a story that drips shivery mystery one minute and rollicking camping fun the next.
