Technique

The dustjackets offered are digitally scanned from a high quality (VG or better) original at 600 DPI.  The master is then carefully restored to remove any minor imperfections. This significantly enhances the eye appeal rather than just offering a color photocopy and reproducing any flaws - such as small edge chips or tears. Great care is taken to painstakingly retouch these images with emphasis on maintaining the full scope of the original artwork and preserving the texture and granularity of the original. The dustjacket is then printed on an industrial quality machine -- usually a Xerox DocuColor. This professional color photocopier far exceeds the image quality possible on any inkjet printer, and produces sharper, crisper images and much better color definition (tone, hue & saturation) as compared to the typical yellow shift encountered with color laser printers. Overall, a more time-consuming and costlier endeavor, however with amazingly pleasing results !!

Artwork

Out of respect & appreciation of the original artwork, any digital repairs performed are done with the utmost care to preserve the detail, hue, tone & color saturation of the original.  We find it very important to be faithful to the originals and ensure accuracy.

Value

Please be aware that a digitally remastered dustjacket will not equal the value of an original dustjacket, although it will enhance the value of a book alone.

Although a universal standard does not apply, based on our experience, one of the guidelines we have established with collectors over the years is that a book without the original dustjacket is worth about 10% of the value of one with the original dustjacket.  With the rarest titles, this may sometimes reach 15% for a book with solid, square spine, tight hinges, crisp, clean pages and vibrant, unfaded cloth binding.  Although a wide generalization will inevitably have its quite valid exceptions, we have found this as a reliable rule of thumb over the years -- there have been collectors that have challenged this concept (usually those without the jacketed copies) -- but many of the more well-established, long-time collectors have defended this position.

Turnaround

Despite our efforts, a circumstance may arise which is not to the satisfaction of one of our clients.  If there is a concern you have, always fee free to contact us so that we can help you.  Please keep in mind the care and time involved in preparing our dustjackets.  Because of the vast extent of our inventory, dustjackets are generated on a first-come, first serve basis.  Although if a jacket has not previously been requested, as a first time order, it will require additional time to prepare it for you.

A first time order is in essence a custom, special order.  The original will be digitized and prepared just for you -- a process which requires 2 to 3 hours.  Please keep in mind that depending on the orders processed during that week, this may increase the turnaround time of your order from 10 to 15 business days.  If you require this jacket for resale or a client, please be sure to specifically request for turnaround time, and if priority service is available.

A phrase that has remained true and poignant to this day:

You can please some of the people all of the time.

You can please all of the people some of the time, but

You can't please all of the people all of the time.

We do our very best to be an exception to these words, although the centuries have proven what a firm grasp he had in his understanding of human nature, and how true his words of wisdom are.
